Cupcake Day for the SPCA

17 August 2016 Cupcakes poured into school this morning - much to the delight of the many students who ordered them. Thanks to all those parents who baked, decorated and purchased cupcakes. They were delicious! Room One iced and decorated their own cupcakes. Some of the techniques were certainly interesting!

Rippa Rugby - Paroa

In bone chilling conditions this morning the Rippa Rugby team played 4 games against other West Coast Schools. We had two brilliant wins and 2 losses. The whole team played their hearts out. Watch out for their reports of the game shortly. Here are a few photos of the action.
Go Team Kaniere!

All lined up for the first tap off in game one.

George sprints down the field headed for another great try. Tom's right there to offer support.

. . . and Tom scores another try!

A tired team at the end of our four games - they deserved the rest!

Parachute Designs

Wednesday May 4 As part of the class Creative Maths in term one everyone designed a parachute with the aim being to see who could design one with the slowest descent time. The class had a heap of fun learning to use google slides at the same time.

Making Parachutes

As part of our maths and technology learning the class has been learning to design, make and modify parachutes. The next step will be to record the descent times on a table and compare these with other groups. Students need to think about how they will take accurate measurements and ensure that 'flights' are conducted in a fair manner. The photos show the creating stage. The designs were drawn using the Google drawing tool.

Good use of recycled materials.

Some serious concentration at the create stage!

KiwiSport

7 March 2016 PE

A wet Monday morning saw us move desks in the class to carry on with our Kiwisport lessons.
The focus this term is striking and fielding games. Throwing and catching are the important skills the students have been focusing on. Today we used tennis balls.

5+ a Day

3 March 2016

Fresh fruit and vegetables were the name of the game at Kaniere on Monday morning as we celebrated healthy eating and 5+ a day. After getting together in house groups for some fun games everyone loaded up their kebab sticks with their own personal selection of goodies.

Tom gave his selection the thumbs up!
Georgia's already got her eye on those yummy strawberries.
Krista's having fun . . . but as for Mikayla?
Lots of healthy eating in Ruma Tāhi.
Jimmy is keen for a few more bits.

Cameron doesn't look quite so sure about his choice!

Rippa Rugby

29 February 2016

Ruma Tahi, along with all the other classes have been really lucky to have Nobby come in to build on our rippa rugby skills over the last two weeks. We've learnt how to pass the ball while moving, move into spaces and how to work as a team. Ka pai Nobby. We hope you can come back again soon!

 . . . and this is how it's done . . .

Cameron running in to rip the tag.

A chance to use those new skills and tips.

Team talk!

Tom - you've dug deep to find all this information out about Riley.
16 February

Over the last week the class have been finding out a bit about each by conducting interviews. It is amazing the different skills and unique talents that each student has. Happy reading!

Great interviewing Riley. A good idea to include an action shot!

Friday 12 February

We had a lot of fun down at the town pool this afternoon and appreciated the extra coaching tips from some ex-Kaniere students who are unable to currently attend WHS. Thanks Jack, Mitchell, Grace, Laura, Ella and Preston!

Learning New Skills

This afternoon the class was kept busy learning new skills on the chrome books. Everyone (including Mrs Phelps) now knows how to research in a smarter and more efficient way. You can see from the photos just how much brainwork was required!
